It's that time of year again, can you believe it? And it was a BIG one year, as my sweet boy started Kindergarten {sniff, sniff}!!  I hear that now the time really starts to fly....definitely.not.ready.

But one thing that can help you get ready is stocking up on awesome school supplies {stay tuned for a future post on a plethora of must-have "back to school" goodies!}.  That's where HustleMama comes in.  It's an etsy shop run by a local {Phoenix} Mom, whom I personally know, as she used to own a baby boutique that carried some adam's blankie couture!  Needless to say, she knows what's in style.  And one of those things are "green" food storage bags!  The huge benefit here?  Well, besides helping save the landfills, you also save money in your pocket, as you no longer need to purchase the {throw-away} plastic baggies once you have these. And with listings starting at just $4, there's options to fit every budget!

So HustleMama sent me two of their sandwich bags and two of their snack bags to review.  Now, I'm no newbie to the world of ecofriendly bags, as I've made my own for my own kiddos {before you ask, yes we DID carry them in our shop a while back, but no longer do.  If you're a DIY'er, however, our pattern is available in the shop}.  The ecofriendly bags from HustleMama are professionally sewn with surged edges - bonus!  They are lined inside making wiping up easy.  And if the mess is a bit more involved, and wiping doesn't cut it, you can machine wash them!  I already did toss one of ours in the washer, and it came out perfectly.  The bags are also food-safe with no lead, BPA or pthalates.  Oh, and did I mention she has 48 fabrics to choose from??  If you know me at all, you know how much I love being able to choose my own fabrics, so that's a huge perk {LOOOVE the chevron print we received!}!

My one drawback with them is that my Kindergartener had a hard time getting the flap flipped open.  That's not to say he couldn't get to the food inside; he just had a tough time trying to flip the flap over.  The bags are made "envelope-style," meaning you must fold over the top in order to keep the bag open.  Now, you don't HAVE to flip the top back to get inside, but it makes eating easier and more efficient if you do.  That being said, as they are envelope-style closure, there's no velcro or snaps to mess with.

A Toy Garden {Review & GIVEAWAY!}*CLOSED

 A Toy Garden is an online shop owned by Sonya, a mother of two. Sonya created her business after people began showing interest in her own hand-made products she has made for her daughter when she was little.  Since then, she has expanded her shop to offer many other products, as well, although most {if not all} are made from natural "waldorf-inspired" materials {think cotton, silk, wood, wool, etcetera}.

A Toy Garden recently sent us some of their "Stockmar" crayons that they carry.  Stockmar crayons are a high quality crayon made from beeswax and are produced in Germany.   What's so special about beeswax, you ask?  Well, for starters they're environmentally friendly, so even if your little one sticks this in his or her mouth, you don't have to worry about any nasty chemicals.  Secondly, the Stockmar crayons produce more brilliant colors.  This means the picture little Johnny draws will be "truer" picture that's more vibrant and pleasing to the eye!

I also particularly like that they come in a tin box, that clasps shut.  This way, it cannot open accidentally, and spill the crayons all over.  Additionally, they are a chunky, rectangular-shaped crayon. For this reason, they are especially nice for little hands, as they're easy to grasp, not to mention, they can't roll off the table onto the ground.  Plus, as they have no paper around them, no caps and no plastic tube surrounding them, no matter how the little hands scribble with them, they'll "work" for your budding artist!  I tried these out with my 1 year old, who has a natural knack for wanting to color.  With other crayons or markers, she gives up more quickly because of one end "not working" {due to a cap, or plastic end of a tube}.  But with these, all sides of the crayon work!

The only drawbacks with these are that {as my 4-year old son pointed out} they 1) smell kinda funny, 2) are difficult to use for filling in coloring pages {you know, the ones with the black lines} because they are so chunky and don't have one nice sharper end, so it's hard to stay in between the lines, and 3} are pricey.  But, they will last for a long time...heck, DECADES even!  So you could use these for a lifetime, really, which is worth the price ticket right there.

Spotlight on "My Personal Gifts" ~ Handpainted Shirts & Onesies and FREE GIVE-AWAY!!!

A good friend of mine introduced me to Jennifer, co-owner of "My Personal Gifts,"and I have gotten the privilege of getting to know her a bit more and of being the lucky recipient of one of their highly fashionable, free-handedly painted T-shirts. My son received his reef shark shirt a few days ago, and he was thrilled with its arrival and wanted to put it on immediately! I was very impressed with the prompt delivery of the package, and even more enthralled with the quality, precision & accurate depiction of the painting.

As I myself am always on the look-out for children's clothing that is not exactly like that of every other child you see on the street, I truly appreciate their extra effort to provide absolute custom fashion, which is evident through their philosophy to never produce any two products that are exactly alike. Additionally, they welcome adding your child's name to items, and happily accommodate use of particular brands of shirts and onesies at the buyer's request. But beyond being abundantly adorable and completely custom , I love their nature-inspired use of non-toxic acrylic paint on cotton in creating their one-of-a-kind shirts and onesies.

Jennifer tells me that while the business officially began in February of this year, the artists (Jennifer, her Mom and Aunt) have been creating these delights for decades! Continual complements on their hand-painted gems are what prompted the birth of the company, Jennifer says.
