{HustleMama} Review & Giveaway

{Back To School}

It's that time of year again, can you believe it? And it was a BIG one year, as my sweet boy started Kindergarten {sniff, sniff}!!  I hear that now the time really starts to fly....definitely.not.ready.

But one thing that can help you get ready is stocking up on awesome school supplies {stay tuned for a future post on a plethora of must-have "back to school" goodies!}.  That's where HustleMama comes in.  It's an etsy shop run by a local {Phoenix} Mom, whom I personally know, as she used to own a baby boutique that carried some adam's blankie couture!  Needless to say, she knows what's in style.  And one of those things are "green" food storage bags!  The huge benefit here?  Well, besides helping save the landfills, you also save money in your pocket, as you no longer need to purchase the {throw-away} plastic baggies once you have these. And with listings starting at just $4, there's options to fit every budget!
the 4 bags we received for review {orange and white you see is a NOTE, NOT a bag - just fyi} :)

So HustleMama sent me two of their sandwich bags and two of their snack bags to review.  Now, I'm no newbie to the world of ecofriendly bags, as I've made my own for my own kiddos {before you ask, yes we DID carry them in our shop a while back, but no longer do.  If you're a DIY'er, however, our pattern is available in the shop}.  The ecofriendly bags from HustleMama are professionally sewn with surged edges - bonus!  They are lined inside making wiping up easy.  And if the mess is a bit more involved, and wiping doesn't cut it, you can machine wash them!  I already did toss one of ours in the washer, and it came out perfectly.  The bags are also food-safe with no lead, BPA or pthalates.  Oh, and did I mention she has 48 fabrics to choose from??  If you know me at all, you know how much I love being able to choose my own fabrics, so that's a huge perk {LOOOVE the chevron print we received!}!

My one drawback with them is that my Kindergartener had a hard time getting the flap flipped open.  That's not to say he couldn't get to the food inside; he just had a tough time trying to flip the flap over.  The bags are made "envelope-style," meaning you must fold over the top in order to keep the bag open.  Now, you don't HAVE to flip the top back to get inside, but it makes eating easier and more efficient if you do.  That being said, as they are envelope-style closure, there's no velcro or snaps to mess with.
here's one of the bags with the flap opened back

BUY YOURS!
To get your own sandwich and snack bags, head on over to HustleMama and let Shannon know that Adam's Blankie sent ya!  Shannon is a true pleasure to work with, and offers top-notch customer service (just check her reviews while you're there!).

GIVEAWAY!
HustleMama has graciously offered to give away some ecofriendly bags to TWO of our blog readers!  One will win a set of 6 snack bags, and one will win a set of 5 sandwich bags! To enter, simply "like" HustleMama AND Adam's Blankie on facebook. While there, you *MUST* leave a comment on each page letting us know you found us on the Adam's Blankie/HTBC blog!  Then head back over here and comment that you've liked both facebook pages!  That's it!  Easy peasy!

Giveaway will close August 1st at 1:00 pm AZ time. Winner will be contacted via email and have 48 hours to claim their prize.  If no response is received, a new winner will be selected via random.org.  Winner name will also be posted at the bottom of this post once he or she has claimed the prize.

Good luck!  Hope you all have a fabulous "Back to School" experience!

{Honest} Diapers: A Better Choice for Baby

We have had quite a winter season with illnesses that bombarded our family like none other year.  From allergies and stomach flues to chronic coughing and runny noses, to a relentless case of hives, I've never before actually LOOKED FORWARD TO the arrival of the Arizona summer heat! Ugh!

So, regarding the hives.  My daughter came down with these, and they lasted a good two weeks.  If you've experienced hives, you'll know that they come and go as they seemingly please, and just when you think they're gone, they reappear somewhere else a little later.  BEYOND FRUSTRATING for a mother!

Of course, we took her to the doctor, where they advised me it was probably a viral infection versus an allergy due to her age (a toddler).  They prescribed taking doses of benadryl to ease the itching and offer some relief to them.  We did use the benadryl, but this did nothing to really prevent the hives from resurfacing.  It did provide some relief from the itching, I'll admit, but nothing to really resolve the {root of the} problem.  So I did what most of you probably do: I went online and started researching natural ways to remedy this pain in the rear the hives.  From that, we tried oatmeal & tea tree oil baths.  Beyond that, "natural remedies," as far as Google is concerned, were a matter of waiting it out.  Using my own rational judgment,  I also switched her laundry back to the baby detergent and got some organic diaper rash cream & lotion for her.  Still, the hives occurred.

The most interesting symptom of the hives was that, in addition to them being all over her body, she also experienced a ridiculously red rash on her bottom.  It wasn't a "normal" diaper rash -- it was somewhat of a cross between diaper rash and hives {sorry - no pictures -- she'd kill me if I ever posted pictures of her like that!}.  Anyway, the rash appeared in the morning, after having slept in her diaper all night long.  This quickly prompted me to look for a "greener" diaper alternative.

Thank GOD {literally!!} for the "Parenting" magazine showing up in my mailbox during the midst of this episode, because there it was, headlined in that particular issue, "The Honest Company."  And what do they do, you ask?  Well, they specialize in "green," safe products -- everything from diapers to cleaning products {shampoo, hand soap, sunscreen, laundry detergent, etcetera}.  It was started by the actress, Jessica Alba, after she had kids and wanted something more safe and natural for her own pipsqueaks.
I immediately ordered their sampler kit and was BEYOND THRILLED with the products I received!  And guess what?  The very next morning when my daughter woke up?  NO diaper rash or red bottom what.so.ever!  Ahhhh-mazing! Needless to say, I immediately signed up for their full monthly delivery plan -- diapers, wipes, healing balm and all!
ice cream diaper pattern my daughter loves!
So this led me to start researching more about diapers.  Mind you, I have actually dabbled in cloth diapers, which my daughter used for her first 6 months of life, in fact.  But as she began to crawl and move more, the bulky cloth diapers became cumbersome, and we made the switch to the leaner disposables.  {If you can get through using cloth diapers, by all means, go for it!  They just didn't work for us}.  The fabulous thing about "The Honest Company" diapers is that they are natural {NO nasty chemicals!!} AND disposable!!  Um, and super cute, too, might I add!  {My daughter now asks for her "ice cream diapers" all the time!}.

So here's the deal on the typical cloth diapers in the industry {as taken from "The Honest Company" website}:

*First off, they are not required to reveal what's inside them {hmmmmm.....}
*There are tons of plastics and chemicals in them
*The plastics emit volatile organic compounds" {VOCS}
*Fragrances and lotions aplenty {made from who knows what?  but many lotions do contain phthalates that are a big no-no}
*Synthetic dyes
*Their bleaching process releases dioxins into the environment

And guess what these dioxins do?  Well, they're known as major cancer causer in us.  Sounds great, eh?  When you actually stop to think about it, it's beyond understanding that these other diaper companies could even consider putting the chemicals they use into diapers.  There needs to be a serious change in the industry!

On top of that, a study suggests there may be a link between these disposable diapers and asthma {hmmm...that would explain the ridiculous increase in asthma in kids}. Another study suggests a possible link between the dyes in diapers and diaper rashes.  That would make sense.

So, all this to say, I URGE you to try to find a safer, better alternative to your baby's diapers!!  As I said, if you can do the cloth diapers, I still think they're the best option out there.  But if those aren't for you {be it time, maintenance, etcetera, then as far as I can tell, the diapers from "The Honest Company" are a top-of-the-line choice for disposable diapers for your baby.

Here's what I KNOW about them::

*chemical FREE
*oil FREE
*plant based
*chlorine-FREE
*perfume FREE
*phthalate FREE
*lotion FREE
*optical brightener FREE
*PVC FREE
*heavy metal FREE
*organotin FREE

You MUST stop to wonder about the rash & hives disappearing when we switched to these natural diapers.  The most important thing I can say here is that these diapers made a DIFFERENCE for us.  I'm not just saying they are good and "green," we actually saw the difference!  And I can tell you, mother to mother, that I feel so, SO much better knowing she is in chemical-free diapers....a part of infancy and toddler-hood that touches their skin day in and day out for 2 to 3 to even 4 years.

Make the switch!!!

{important DISCLAIMER: I was in NO WAY, shape or form paid or given or advised to use "The Honest Company" diapers/products.  I found them on my own, and decided to try them without any others' prompting me.  I HIGHLY recommend these!  Give your baby a better choice and a healthier start!}

{Tastybaby} Review & GIVEAWAY!

I have to admit that before getting the Tastybaby products a try, I never even knew of their existence.   But let me just say now that I am really impressed with Tastybaby products.  They taste good.  They're healthy.  The company gives back.

Tastybaby offers a line of organic baby foods and toddler snacks.  Their products include infant cereals, frozen purees, fruit snacks and cereal bars.   Not only are the foods organic, but they're delicious, too!

What kid doesn't love fruit snacks, right?  But the thing I especially love about those from Tastybaby is that they are organic and do NOT have high fructose corn syrup, preservatives or artificial colors and flavors, nor even gelatin. They're made from just real fruit juice and can even be eaten by those who are on a gluten-free or vegan diet.  Delish and smart.

Their organic baby frozen purees are quite a treat, too.  Really Tastybaby uses the innovative "blast freezing," which by industry standards is thee next best thing to picking the fruits/veggies from your garden and eating them right there on the spot.  This is because blast freezing freezes the fruits/veggies in minutes when the fruits/veggies are ripe and full of the most nutrients {and according to the American Cancer Society, this allows for even more nutrients than buying fresh foods because during the time gap between harvesting and consumption, foods lose nutrients}.  So basically those nutrients all get saved in the freezing process and then go right to baby when eaten!  LOVE that!  Their purees come in a cute little box, which includes two 3-3.5 oz cups.  All you need to do is thaw them overnight OR warm up in a bowl of hot water OR microwave for about 30 seconds.  Done. Baby is ready to eat.  We tried the "bangos" (banana & mango mix ~ love that cute name!), and it was absolutely delicious {I'd love this to go with my breakfast every day.  Seriously!}.  They offer a few other flavors, as well, and they are all marked for the different stages your child is in eating-wise {from the stage 1 beginning eater to the stage 3 eater}.

We've truly become big fans of Tastybaby at our house.  I just wish more grocery stores carried their products.  Tastybaby DOES have a form you can print right on their website to submit to your local grocery to request that they carry Tastybaby.  But another great option is buying from Amazon, where Tastybaby ships FREE!

{HAPPYBABY} Review & GIVEAWAY! {giveaway is closed}.

If you're like me, you're always looking for what's best for baby ~ from hip, couture clothing to the healthiest, freshest food.

Now, I do make my own baby food because I think you can't get any fresher, healthier or tastier than making it yourself.  But sometimes we travel, or I'm too tired to whip up a new batch myself, or I just want to have some other things on hand that I myself don't typically make.  That's where the search for the best {commercial} baby foods comes into play.

Meet HAPPYBABY.  It's a company that offers frozen organic baby meals, probiotic {a "friendly" bacteria that helps discourage the growth of harmful, disease-causing bacteria} dry cereals with DHA {an omega-3 essential fatty acid to help develop eye and brain tissue}, toddler meals with hidden veggies, organic puff grain snacks {for baby and toddler alike} and organic freeze-dried yogurt snacks. And, as they are organic, they contain no pesticides, chemical fertilizers or preservatives.  Additionally, they offer allergen-free options - something many families deal with nowadays, I realize....it's good to see that another company realizes it, too!  And is if those weren't reasons enough to try out HAPPYBABY, for every package of their food you buy, HAPPYBABY gives to "Project Peanut Butter," which helps feed malnourished children in Malawi.

Well, we were able to test out pretty much all their products at our house ~ from their organic dry cereals and organic puffs to their Happy Bites toddler meals, we gave them a whirl.  So as our baby girl was brand new to eating solids, we started with the organic rice cereal.  And I have to confess - she didn't like it.  That being said, she hasn't liked any of the rice cereals we've tried since then!  Now, if you mix it with fruit, that's a whole different story -- and a success, at that!  So that's a win in my book!

Then we moved on to the Organic Puffs {we tried apple}.  They have half the sugar of other leading brands, are made from whole grains and are a good source of iron, vitamin D, calcium and B vitamins.  Plus, they help your little one develop small motor skills -- that is, self feeding. Baby K LOVES these and just can't get enough!  Even my 3 1/2 year old likes them!  Honestly, I'm not sure why...I tried one and thought it tasted like cardboard!  But more power to me AND them!! A healthy snack they crave!

Next up was the HAPPYBABY Fresh Organic Frozen Baby Meals.  We tried the butternut squash & apple duo, along with a couple other flavors.  They come frozen in a package of 12 1 ounce-sized cups.  You can thaw overnight, or run under some hot water {for a mere few seconds}, and they pop right out of the tray.  The flavors are NOT mixed {instead, it's 6 cups of each flavor, in this case 6 apple and 6 squash}, but you can mix them together, as I did, and Baby K liked!  They're delicious, organic, & convenient...what more need I say?

And lastly, we tried the HAPPYBITES for toddlers.  We tried the mac & cheese & veggie tots {they also offer salmon stix & chicken bites in these}.  I thought both were fabulous {I would be happy to eat the mac & cheese ones myself!}, and so did our little guy.  They are organic, of course, and easy to prepare - simply heat in the microwave.  All their HAPPYBITES have hidden veggies, too, and are perfectly sized for smaller hands to hold.

What I also love is that HAPPYBABY has many recipes for you to make your own healthy meals for your little tykes!  They include using the HAPPYBABY products, and some baked goods {e.g., muffins} are good at hiding the nutritional ingredients - "Whoo-hoo!" for that ~ we with toddlers/pre-schoolers know how difficult it can be to get the "greens" into their little bodies sometimes, right?!

Here is a sample recipe from HAPPYBABY:

French Toast with Hidden Veggies
2 organic eggs
¼ cup of organic whole milk
1 tsp of vanilla
Cinnamon
1 cube (thawed) of HAPPYBABY Grrreat Greens
2 slices of bread (sprouted grain, flourless if possible)
Lightly beat the eggs in a bowl; add the milk, vanilla and great greens. Sprinkle cinnamon to taste.

Dip the bread and place in a hot non-stick pan. Use butter to coat it if you need to.
Serve with natural maple syrup OR try serving it with YoBaby Drinkable Yogurts to sweeten it! Our babies love it!
P.S.  The French toast will not turn green … promise!

BUY IT! Visit HAPPYBABY to find a local retailer who sells the HAPPYBABY line to get your own yum on!

WIN IT!  One lucky Haute Tot & Baby Couture {Adam's Blankie} blog reader is going to win:

2 free trial coupons for each of our product lines OR 1 case of the product of their choice (you decide which is best)
1 Eric Carle Growth Chart from our marketing partner YoBaby
1 infant and toddler Nutrition Guide
1 FAQ on Probiotics & DHA

{GIVEAWAY} & Review of The Eli Monster *CLOSED

The Eli Monster is a mother-owned and run shop that produces utterly adorable cloth diapers. Let me repeat.  Utterly.  Adorable.

AIO in Amy Butler fabric
How adorable?  Well, for starters, they offer...Amy Butler prints!!  Now, if you're unaware of Amy Butler fabrics, then I'm not sure what rock you've been living under, but trust me on this:  Amy Butler prints are simply stunning {and quite addictive, but that's a whole other post}!  And to actually find diapers constructed in one of her prints is nearly impossible.  Especially ones that are AIO and do NOT need to be covered up with a diaper cover!  Whoo-hoo!

So beyond their spectacular array of designer prints for your cloth diapers, they also offer minky covers {again, very hard to find!,} fabulous fitteds and even some inserts {particularly for gDiapers}.

But of course the all-important question still remains..."How well do they work?"  After all, a diaper can be as cute as a button, but if it doesn't work, then it's worthless.  But, alas, I'm happy to report that we had a good experience with our little Eli Monster diaper.  Besides being the cutest diaper we own thus far, it is fairly thin when compared to other cloth diapers out there.  That being said, this is partly because it is a true AIO (all-in-one) diaper ~  one that cannot be stuffed with any additional inserts.  The beauty here is you save time because there's no stuffing.  The con here is that they take longer to dry, and you can't use these overnight.  But then again, why would you want to waste these diapers' beauty during bedtime?  Trust me when I say you will want to have your baby sporting these diapers sans any bloomers, shorts or pants that would cover them up!

All the Eli Monster diapers come with velcro closure.  As I've said many times before, velcro makes for diapers that are convenient,  fast to put on {that is, Daddy & Grandma-approved!}, and that fit well.  The drawback?  Velcro can lose its "stickiness" {albeit, purpose} after many washes, not to mention its potential to stick to other things in the wash. But these diapers from the Eli Monster do wash up well - no pilling thus far - just some additional time for drying (versus covers or pockets which you can "unstuff" thereby needing less time to dry).

Our little monkey in The Eli Monster AIO
The final score on this diaper is that we love it!  Overall, I'd give it a score of 8.5.  I wish it were a hybrid that I could stuff with additional liners for longer use {ours lasted about 3 hours during the day}, and I wish they offered snap closure.  Snaps would be more durable, and multiple rows of them would allow for the diaper to become a one-sizer that would last all through the cloth-diapering years.  But other than that, they're fabulous!

BUY IT!  Visit The Eli Monster to purchase your own designer print cloth diapers or covers today!  One AIO will run you $19.25, but if you purchase a Lot of them, you'll save some money {you can get a bundle of 6 for just $99, which is equivalent to just $16.50 per diaper}!

WIN IT!  One lucky Haute Tot and Baby Couture reader is going to win their own Eli Monster AIO diaper in their choice of print and size!  See below for how to enter!!

Mandatory Entry!

GIVEAWAY & Review for {CushyToosh} *CLOSED*

Cushy Toosh is a small American company {based in Wisconsin} that handcrafts cushy cloth diapers for your baby's bum.   And beyond just the cloth diapers, they also create diaper pail liners, eco-friendly {cloth} wipes and even diaper wipes solution {among some other non-CD products}!

We received one of their "Anytime Supremes" {a.k.a "CushyTOOSH Nite Nites}cloth diapers, which is a PUL pocket diaper with leg gusseting to help prevent leakage.  The first thing I noticed is that this is a different type of pocket than you're probably used to.  Unlike most other pocket diapers out there, there is no sleeve for you to stuff.  You simply place your liner/s into the center of the diaper, and the gussets on the inside of the diaper help keep it/them in place {from falling out of the diaper}.  This makes for some easy stuffing, which is a huge time-saver and will please Daddy if he's the designated stuffer in your house!

The one we received was velcro, but I did notice that Cushy Toosh offers both velcro AND snaps - your choice for the same price!  In my opinion there are pros and cons to each, of course.  Velcro is more convenient and quicker.  Snaps are more durable and offer no fuss during wash days {no folding tabs down, no sticking to other laundry}.  Now, as you probably know, I do tend to prefer snaps over velcro, but I will say that the Cushy Toosh diaper with the velcro we received has a very looooooooooong strip of velcro and super long and quite wide velcro tabs.  What does this mean for you?  Well, it's more secure and longer-lasting than typical velcro closures.  Obviously a perk with that feature when comparing it to other brands with shorter velcro tabs.  But like I said, whatever you prefer closure-wise, Cushy Toosh has you covered either way.

I do love that the liner that comes with the pocket diaper is an ultra soft cotton sherpa fabric.  It is very long, and so doubles over to fit inside the diaper, meaning more bang for your buck {it's like 2 liners in 1}.  What I don't like is that there is no layer in between the insert and your baby's bum.  Why do I think this may be a problem?  Because the moisture stays right there on baby's toosh instead of wicking it away, which can lead to rashes.  Now, that being said, personally we didn't encounter this; but if your little one's got really sensitive skin or having some acidic poops, this might be a problem for you.  And then again, maybe not.  Afterall, this is the same feature of fitteds and prefolds that just sit right up against their skin.

All in all, we were pretty happy with the diaper!  Our personal experience was that it lasted close to 8 hours during the night, before I noticed some leakage.  So it didn't quite make it through the night, but when talking to the owner of Cushy Toosh, she did advise that with her own son she used 2 of these liners AND an extra hemp one on the bottom.  It did fit our baby girl quite nicely, although the velcro at the top seems to want to "buckle" when putting it on.  I would say it's pretty standard for cloth diapers as far as the bulk factor goes, too.  And at just $18.95 a pop {insert included}, it's not a bad choice.  Especially considering they are made to last overnight ~ or, as in our case, last about 8 hours.   The Nite Nites also come in 8 color choices and 3 different sizes.  Cushy Toosh does, however, offer pocket diapers that are One Size Fits All {7-38 pounds}.  And better yet?  They offer all kinds of discounts and FREE DIAPERS for purchasing their pockets in quantities of 5 or more!

One thing we did unfortunately encounter were some of the stitching coming undone after the diaper being washed just 3 times.  I again spoke to the owner about this, and she informed me that she had sent me one of their earlier versions of the diaper, and she was aware of this problem.  She also told me that they have improved the diaper and that "the quality control has sped up 200%."  So if that's the case, you shouldn't encounter the stitching problem.  {I easily just restitched it in a matter of mere seconds, but if you aren't lucky enough to own {or know how to use!} a sewing machine, then that doesn't help you at all, of course}.

BUY IT!  Visit Cushy Toosh today to check our their wide array of products and get your own Nite Nites ordered ASAP!  If they can last you twice as long as your typical cloth diaper, these are quite a deal, meaning less laundry and diapers for you in general!

Homemade Cloth Diaper Detergent Recipe

So you finally did it.  You started cloth diapering.  Do you like it? Is it as hard as you thought?  If you're like me, then the answer is a resounding, "No!" Hooray!  However, after the big investment you put into getting a nice CD {cloth diaper} stash, you've discovered you can't use regular detergent to wash them.  If you do?  Then you're bound for some stinky diapers with built-up residue. You need...{drum roll, please}....cloth diaper detergent.  BUT.  It's expensive.  Really.

So.  Although I'm a definite Rockin Green Soap lover myself, I decided to try to make my own.  Now, mind you I haven't actually done this yet, but I do plan to make it this week using this easy-as-pie recipe:

Equal Parts:
*Borax
*Arm & Hammer Washing Soda {note: it's NOT baking soda!}
*Oxyclean {or other similar oxygen-cleaning powder}
*optional drop or 2 of your favorite essential oil {orange, lemon, lavender, tea tree, etcetera}.

That's it! Just add 1 - 2 Tablespoons per load, and you're set!

{Piggy Paint} Review & GIVEAWAY! *CLOSED*

Piggy Paint creates "non-toxic, odorless, kid-friendly" finger nail polishes & removers designed especially for your little tykes. So they, too, can share in on some girly-nail-polish-goodness but do so without being exposed to toxic, harsh chemicals & odors!

Now, how Piggy Paint came about is a fascinating {and scary!} story.  It all began when founder Melanie Hurley was painting her daughters' nails with "kid polishes," mind you.  While painting them over a foam plate, some polish spilled onto the plate.  And shortly after, the paint started to bubble and "eat" through the plate!  {Can you imagine?!}  So she tested all their other "kid" polishes and got the same results.  It was at that point that Melanie knew she must create her own safe child nail polishes {Thanks, Melanie!}!

The polishes come in cutesy names your daughter will love ~ from "Angel Kisses" to "Girls Rule!"  They also feature a "Project Earth" line with names like "Eat Your Peace" and "Solar Power."  Additionally, they offer many inordinary yet "in" colors your girls will love - from their blue "Tea Party for Two" to their green "Dragon Tears."

We were sent the "Forever Fancy" nail polish {a vibrant pink!} and the polish remover from Piggy Paints.  Now, being as my baby girl is just a couple months old, I didn't use these on her.  I did use them on myself, however, in order to see just how well these Piggy Paints worked!

Piggy Paint does recommend using 2-3 coats, and I found that 2 was just fine.  Per their instructions, you let the paint dry for one minute and then blow dry for 1 minute.  This worked perfectly, and even without a top/protectant sealer/coat, the paint lasted a week before I started to see some wear on the edges!  This is pretty impressive, as I wear sandals every day here, too {being in the desert in the summer, especially!}! I especially like this fast-drying trait for little {squirmy} ones!

The nail polish remover has virtually no scent, which is a huge bonus {particularly when using with little ones}.  I certainly found that it doesn't remove nail polish nearly as effectively or as quickly as a regular remover, though.  You do need to press a saturated cotton ball onto the nail and even then rub more after that.  Even doing so, I found I wasn't getting all the polish off.  And 30 seconds per toe is just a bit much, in my opinion.  That being said, I guess if you're using it on itty bitty toes, it might go more quickly.  I don't have the patience to use on my own toes, however, so I'm thinking neither would a little one.

So my ultimate feeling on these if that they are a truly superior option for their paints ~ no chemical-ly smells, non-toxic, natural AND just as durable as the "regular" polishes out there!  I would forgo the remover for myself, however, and use only on the little ones...it certainly takes longer & is more difficult to remove, but if you truly want to keep the harmful chemicals away from them, then it's the way to go.

BUY IT!  I think these would make fabulous birthday gifts!  As Piggy paint states, it's as "natural as mud," so there's no harm in its use!  Visit Piggy Paint to purchase your own natural nail polish for just $8.99 a bottle {a bit pricey at first glance, but really a small price to pay for peace of mind that your child won't be exposed to nasty chemicals!}. Enjoy 10% off your entire order with code: COUTURE10L {expires August 31, 2010). They also offer FREE SHIPPING for all orders over $35 {in the USA}!

WIN IT!  One lucky Haute Tot & Baby Couture reader will win a $15 gift card to use on their website!

{Ringley} Review & GIVEAWAY! *CLOSED*

Ringley is a Canadian company that manufactures all natural teething toys, made from Maple wood and organic cotton terrycloth.  The maple wood is untreated and will not splinter.  These features make this the perfect solution for a teething baby, wouldn't you say?

Both the ring and cloth are easy for your child to grasp, and baby can use both for actual teething satisfaction.  I like to think of it as a dual teether, really.  Additionally, the Ringley teething rings can be used wet or dry, which I really like.

The Ringley teething toys come in 4 shapes: knotted, straight, junior or ball.  We received the "junior" version.  All are a natural cream color (the only "color" an organic terrycloth can be without chemicals or dye, of course), so will go with anything and be practical for any parent out there - modern, traditional or otherwise.

We tried it out on our 2 month old...who interestingly enough already seems to be teething - yikes!  Anyway. As she's new to textures and feeling anything in general, she really liked the cloth portion of the teether.  She chewed on it a bit, and also just liked feeling it.  She's not into the ring yet, though, which I'm assuming is because she's so young, so the ring is a bit big for her at this point.  As far as my concern for the Ringley, I love that it's all natural, neutral, has 2 different textures to teethe on, can be used wet or dry and is washable {well, at least 2 styles are}.

One bummer with the straight and knotted versions is that they are made to be only hand-washed.  However, the junior & ball styles come with a removable ring {via velcro}, so you can just toss the cloth part into the washer to get clean!

BUY IT!  Visit Ringley to find a local retailer to purchase your own Ringley teething toy {MSRP $14.99 - $19.99, depending on style}!  {In case there wasn't one listed near you, I did find this online retailer who carries all 4 styles!}.

WIN IT!  One lucky Haute Tot & Baby Couture reader will win a Ringley teether of their own!

{Snugs Boutique} Review & GIVEAWAY!

Snugs Boutique is a small Canadian shop owned by Andrea, the mother of a "very spirited" 2yo, in her own words! Andrea was so inspired by him that she started creating her own line of cloth diapers when he was just 6 months old {where does one find the time!?}. Her shop carries everything from one sized diapers to fitted ones, along with covers, wipes, inserts, "mama pads" and more!

Off first glance, I especially love that she carries some unique fabrics for her diapers. While there are plain, solid colored ones available, there are also some fab patterns in her fitted diapers for those of you who'd like a bit more spunk on your baby's bottom! This is an aspect that you usually just simply do not find in the big brands of manufactured cloth diapers {and if you do, they're usually significantly more expensive}.

Snugs Boutique sent us both a one size cloth pocket diaper in their mod chocolate brown color, along with a one size diaper cover in a baby blue. The Snugs Boutique one sized pocket diaper features different snap settings to allow for up to 3 different fittings to fit babies from about 10-35 pounds. That being said, we did try it one our newborn (8 pounds), and it fit just fine, so I think you can use it from birth, too {as long as they're not a tiny baby perhaps}. The diaper has Aplix (velcro) closure on top to ensure a snug fit around the waist, as well. Now I know I've always said I love the durability of snaps, but I have to also say that I {and especially my husband!} love the convenience, fit, and ease of using Aplix closures. My only concern, as usual, with Aplix is to see how long it lasts after many washes...only time will tell there. But so far, I'm really happy with this diaper!

The fitted pocket cloth diaper also features a super soft & lofty fleece interior, waterproof exterior lining and comes with an adjustable {via 2 different snap settings} microfiber insert. I especially love that the insert can be adjusted and will stay put with the snap settings! And did I mention it comes in 15 different color choices? Not too shabby....

When it came time to wash, we just removed the insert, and folded over the Aplix tabs {to keep them from sticking to everything in the wash!}, and we were all set to go. The diaper washed up beautifully, and might I also mention that there were no leaks ~ even with her being only 8 pounds!

We also tested out the Snugs Boutique one size diaper cover on our newborn {as you can see in the picture at right, she still has her "plug" in!}. Like their pocket diaper, the cover also features their signature snap settings to allow for up to 3 different sizes. The exterior is waterproof, of course, and the inner layer is a soft, plush lamb-like material. And this is certainly a unique feature for a cover because normally covers don't have any interior fabric. It proved easy to adjust to the proper setting I needed, kept all wetness inside and washed up perfectly, too.

The one sized cloth pocket diapers retail for just $16, and the covers for $8. These are great deals, considering they'll last you from birth to potty training! Also be sure to check out their adorable line of appliqued prefold diapers, if you're using those!

BUY IT! To get your own cloth diapers, visit Snugs Boutique!

{ImagiPLAY} Review & GIVEAWAY! *CLOSED*

ImagiPLAY offers a plethora of "Toys with Integrity," as their motto claims. What gives them integrity? Well, for starters, they are crafted from plantation-grown Rubberwood, which is an eco-friendly hardwood, and their toys are all-natural and non-toxic. In addition to their "green" all-natural hardwood and lead-free paint, the toys offer educational value for your children, with most of them aid in their ability to count, learn the alphabet and identify different animals. For these reasons, they're quite perfect for pre-schoolers, in my opinion. Even moreso, ImagiPLAY toys inspire creativity and help instill the use of a vivid imagination ~ what every child needs and craves naturally! I love the *lack* of "bells and whistles" on their toys, and focus on open-ended play instead, and for that feat alone, I give ImagiPLAY an A+.

Many of the ImagiPLAY toys focus on the wonders of the world, namely, animals. From their Pozimals, featuring mostly African mammals, to their ColorMeUp wooden puzzles {it's an art kit, too ~ paints included!}, featuring domestic, exotic and sealife creatures, ImagiPLAY helps kids learn about the beautiful, natural world around them, all the while, teaching the basics of pre-school {counting, coloring, learning their ABC's, etcetera}. Additional toys such as the LacingScapes further instill such qualities, while also helping your children enrich their fine motor & problem-solving skills.

My newly 3yo son received the Count Octopus from their Colorific Earth Puzzles line. It is a non-traditional puzzle, shaped like an octopus, of course, and painted in bright & rich child-safe paints. Each octopus arm, along with the head, is painted in a different color and has a different number on it. So your child can learn not only about the different colors, but also how to count {1-10}, how to problem-solve {put the puzzle together properly} and about octopuses {Mom & Dad's insight AND information from their online Learning Center, where I learned there are 150 species of octopi and that they can change their color to match the coral and rocks around them!}.

So, the first time my son encountered the Count Octopus, it was a bit perplexing to him {naturally}. As he's used to the more traditional-style puzzles, and this one is definitely more advanced, he found himself frustrated. He is just newly 3, so I think it will just take some time to get used to it. So for now, we're using it mostly for our practice with colors and counting, along with learning about sea creatures. But that's the beauty of it - it's very versatile and will grow with your child. I think the Count Octopus would make for a fabulous 3rd {or even 4th} birthday party gift, and it will be one the child uses for a few years. And what a great kick-off present for a child getting ready to go to pre-school!

Upon learning about ImagiPLAY, including its toys and the company's philosophy, I have a lot of respect for them, and highly recommend their products for your children. They really do encompass what I would consider to be reputable toys, as they fulfill all aspects you'd like every toy to have, as a parent {not to mention, all the awards they've won from Dr. Toy, Parents' Choice Foundation, and others}.

BUY IT! To purchase your own ImagiPLAY toys, visit them online. From toys starting at just $5.99, you're sure to find something for your child that won't break the bank, and you can feel good about getting them! Receive 20% off your purchase with code: integrity10 (good 3/16-4/14).

WIN IT! One lucky Haute Tot & Baby Couture reader is going to win the same Count Octopus we received {MSRP $17.99}!
